Do You Need a Squirrel Repellent?

squirrel-repellentSquirrels have been one species of animals that have adapted quite well to the natural growth of human population centers and major cities. Unlike most animals that die out due to an increased human population some would say that squirrels have thrived in these environments.  And they have – causing major problems.  This is why in many respects is the reason why some have a squirrel repellent in order to prevent some of the damage that they in fact can cause.  From digging up and destroying garden flowers to eating veggies in the vegetable garden – they can become quite a nuisance. Many of the repellents that have come onto the market have the central ingredient of cayenne pepper.  Other more popular ingredients can include black or ground white pepper.  Some newer products contain predator urine.  Squirrels smell the predator’s urine and think the predator is actually near by when it of course is not.  It’s quite ingenious.

If squirrels are causing major problems to your garden or home environment its best to lay these peppers or the urine based product (or both) around the edges of the garden bed.  This works to warn off squirrels and thus helps to protect your garden.  However it should be noted that the results of these methods can vary quite a bit and it’s a little bit unclear as to why these methods work for some squirrels and not for others.  It may be said that they might be getting accustomed to the common squirrel repellent.

Regardless, studies have found that wherever squirrels congregate their numbers increase dramatically over a short period of time.  This would highlight the need to address the issue as soon as it becomes apparent.  You do not want to have a scenario where your garden, home, or environment are overrun by squirrels and the situation where use of any of these repellants has actually become useless. Now do you understand the importance of purchasing a good squirrel repellent and use it in case of emergency. Believe it or not, squirrels can cause a lot of damage to your house. The costs of the repair are going to be much higher then the price of a repellent. Now it is your decision about what should be done, but if you want to see some results you have to do it properly and listen what other professionals have to say. Don’t worry guys, sooner or later you’ll manage to keep squirrels away from your house.
